About Me

Hi! I'm Ellie. Welcome to the madness.

If I look familiar, you might recognize me from my old blog, Cedes of Change. After blogging over there for a few years, I felt like I needed a change (no pun intended, LOL).  I am in a completely different place...literally and figuratively... in my life than when I started that blog, and it had become difficult to think of things to write about. After a several months-long break, I found that I really did miss blogging, but didn't really feel like going back to the same place to do it. And so.... here I am, I guess!

If we don't know each other...

I am 20-something, married, and live on the desert-side of Washington state with my husband, two prairie wolves (Border Collies), and one Boston Terrier with a bad attitude. I love reading (romance and horror, especially Stephen King), writing, and training and competing with my dogs in agility, rally, and sometimes herding, obedience. In my not-so-distant past I competed all around the country in conformation. I am a dog trainer by trade, and I currently teach obedience and companion classes at an awesome new facility.

Here are a few more (mostly irrelevant) facts about me:

  • I am obsessed with the  TV shows Supernatural and the X-Files. Like, way too obsessed. Tumblr'ing, meta-writing, fanfiction-reading obsessed. Other shows I enjoy include Doctor Who, BBC Sherlock, Broadchurch, Haven, How I Met Your Mother, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and, most recently, Sleepy Hollow.
  • I have a thing for Bollywood movies. My good friend TSB and I write about our shared Bollywood obsession over at The Bollywest Blog
  • As a result of the above obsession, I have been self-teaching myself to read and speak Hindi. It's fascinating.
  • I have a Masters Degree in English Literature, and you would think that would make me a literature snob, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, it might have pushed me too far the other way :P

Prairie Wolves? What?

A common (sometimes joking, sometimes derogatory) term for working-line Border Collies with, ahem, less coat than their rough-coated fluffball brethren is "Coyote Collie."  When doing some research into the history of the Border Collie, I found a reference to "prairie wolves," which is another word for coyote. I loved the term, and it stuck with me, becoming a nickname for my dogs. :)
